HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Hi friends and family. Happy New Year to you all. We rang in the new year with the girls. Jason should be posting new year photos soon. We were mean parents and made the girls get up and wear party hats. I think it was more fun for us than for them:)
The girls are doing great. Making baby steps every day. Piper was able to pass her bilirubin out of her system and got out from under the lights after 24 hours which is great because now she can look at us again. She has gained a little more weight and is up to 3#9oz, Lela’s weight has been up and down and right now she is at 3#15oz, she has gotten over 4#s a couple of times and then lost the weight, which is okay.
Lela had her first bath which she did not care too much for until they massaged her head with this really soft brush. She seemed to enjoy that. Later than day she spit up on herself, pooped all over her bed, and then peed on her new outfit. So I think she was letting us know that she preferred to be dirty than clean. Note taken:)
The girls are just about up to eating all the milk I am making which is a good sign. They are both eating just over an ounce every three hours. They are still exclusively on the feeding tubes and I don’t expect that will change in the near future. We are making progress though and their ability to suck, breath and swallow at the same time is improving. They are still not strong enough to breast feed but that will come in time.
I guess that is all for now. Just wanted to say thanks to Jack and Kathie for taking good care of the dogs while we have been here. And thanks to Renee for filling in for them so that Granny and Grampy could come and spend time with the girls. All the best to everyone and great hopes for a happy new year.
