New Photo Site

Hello!

Today’s the girls’ one-week “we’re home!” anniversary. I celebrated by going to work. I’m sure Mystique’s celebrating my juggling two girls without me (but I’m sure with the help of her parents). I miss the girls already (I’m posting this on my “lunchbreak.” Yeah, that’s it. Hi boss :-) ).

Quick update on photos… I’m using a new service, “flickr”, for my photo sharing. You can see new pictures at our flickr site. If you have any problems with it, please let me know.

Anyhow, I managed to time my waking up last night at the tail end of both feedings, I think. It’s pretty interesting how my mind is mush at 3am and even 6am… I can hardly remember when the girls were last fed or if that’s crying I hear or just a door squeeking (and if it is the door squeeking, who the heck’s in my house squeeking my doors?). Luckily, between the two of us (i.e., Mystique) and a log book we’re keeping, we figure it out. So many thanks to my wonderful wife for giving me a few more hours of sleep on my first day back to work.

To echo some of Mystique’s thoughts… I can recall the many conversations we had about whether or not to try and have kids. We’d go back and forth — we knew we could do it, but I think we were still scared at some level. When we decided to “try but not try” we still didn’t know what we were in for, but now we do. We’re “in for” a great family. We’re not having to take care of two kids. We get the opportunity grow as parents, teach our children about life, and learn from our children about life. All together as one. You couldn’t ask for anything better than that.

Almost a week

Well actually 5 days or so but who is counting;) I was able to have lunch with a good friend the other day and she and I talked about how our lives have changed since having the twins. I told her that loving the twins came as no surprise but the depth of feeling that I have for Jason has only grown and that is a surprise. Having the girls did not really change our lives but completed the circle of our family. It is hard to describe but complete is the best word. I asked Jason a week or so ago about how it felt for him to be a dad. He said he did not really feel different he just felt natural. I think that is a good way to describe how we both feel, natural.

I am so lucky to have Jason. It is like we were meant to be a team. If he doesn’t hear the girls and I get up and feed them then the next feeding somehow I manage not hear the girls and he feeds them. Neither one of us realizes we have slept through a feeding until the next time. This is helping with the amount of sleep we are getting but all in all we both feel great. It could just be euphoria due to having the girls home.

Finally got to take some pictures of the girls in their own bed. Since Mystique brought it up first, of course one includes Tux and linux penguin.

All is well at home… we’re adjusting to the odd sleeping schedule that the girls have concocted. We’ll get them in line soon, though, so we can get some sort of real schedule going.

We had our first appointment with our pediatrition… she was actually the doc for Piper when she was born, so it was nice to see her again. The girls are doing quite well… we haven’t done much damage at all in the couple days that we’ve had them! Lela is officially at six pounds now, and Piper’s skyrocketing up at six pounds, eight ounces. We’ll be back to the doctor next week for a weight check.

More soon!

HOME!

We are home. The girls continued to do really well this weekend and when the doctor came in on Monday he said we were free to go. So we loaded up the girls and I had my first ride in the back seat squeezed between two car seats. Oh what fun!

We survived our first night alone with the girls and managed quite well. I guess when you don’t know what is like having one baby then two is not too bad! Sure I say that now but see me again in a week! The girls enjoyed sleeping in their crib and looking around at all the new things. Jason has a LINUX penguin and Lela is in love. I am sure it is his black and white color but we put him in the crib on her side and she stares at him. Lela loves to look around but Piper is really in to the backs of her eyelids.

Sorry we can’t have any visitors, but it is the best thing for the girls right now. Soon they will be out of danger and they might even be able to venture out into the world. Until then we will keep the site updated with photos and maybe a new movie, I think someone owes us a comedy.

Love to all,
Mystique
