Lela’s first smile

Well now that Jason and I are seasoned veterans at locating smiles we are on the prowl. This morning Jason swears that Lela smiled at him and I don’t doubt it (I did not see it mind you). Then when I was feeding her I know that she smiled in response to a painting of a tiger that I did in her room. She was just staring at it and when I said do you like the tiger, she smiled. Sigh……

It is so fun to see them change and grow and meet these little milestones. Yesterday she even stuck her legs down and held her own body weight for a second or two for the first time. She has been quite floppy, not wanting to hold her head or put any weight on her legs. But yesterday she pulled up with her arms in Grammy Haslups lap and then held her own weight on my lap. Little things that bring so much joy.

We can’t wait for her first giggle. Lord knows just the sight of her mom and dad is enough to laugh at.

Pipers first smile

Well, its official. Piper had her first smile and it was at Grammy Haslup. She might have done one before then but I am too dense to notice:) Yesterday we had a visit from a nurse that runs a program for the county for preemies. She comes by every month or so and helps us assess their motor, language and other developmental skills so that we can make sure that they catch up to where they should be by the time they are two years old.

She asked me if the girls had smiled yet and I said, no, not real smiles. Then during the visit Piper woke up and the nurse brought her over to me. When she put her in my arms Piper looked up at me and smiled. The nurse said, well that was a smile. She smiled in response to your voice, so another developmental milestone was checked off the list. And now mommy knows what to look for.

As far as development goes, Piper is at 3 months for motor skills which is her actual age. And she is at 1 month, her corrected age, for language and other skills. So doing really well in the large scheme of things.
