Pipers first smile

Well, its official. Piper had her first smile and it was at Grammy Haslup. She might have done one before then but I am too dense to notice:) Yesterday we had a visit from a nurse that runs a program for the county for preemies. She comes by every month or so and helps us assess their motor, language and other developmental skills so that we can make sure that they catch up to where they should be by the time they are two years old.

She asked me if the girls had smiled yet and I said, no, not real smiles. Then during the visit Piper woke up and the nurse brought her over to me. When she put her in my arms Piper looked up at me and smiled. The nurse said, well that was a smile. She smiled in response to your voice, so another developmental milestone was checked off the list. And now mommy knows what to look for.

As far as development goes, Piper is at 3 months for motor skills which is her actual age. And she is at 1 month, her corrected age, for language and other skills. So doing really well in the large scheme of things.

He survived:)

Well needless to say Jason survived his first time alone with the girls. In fact they were better for him than they are for me, mostly because he was able to give them big bottles of mothers milk so they were in food coma’s but he did it and everyone was splendid.

Jason’s brother flew up from PHX to visit this weekend and it was lots of fun. Lucky for us he has excellent taste in clothes and brought the girls up some really fun outfits, hats and jackets. He also bought them an ishuffle for our walks so they can listen to tunes. He is such a great uncle.

Jack and Kathie are still here helping us out which is great. They come over everyday and spend the afternoon with the girls which gives me time to shower and sometimes even the first chance to brush my teeth:) Ewww gross I know.

All in all we are doing fantastic. The girls are growing a little slower than before but are lots of fun. We are still waiting for those first real smiles but we know they will come when they are ready.

Still Here!

Howdy!

Yes, it’s been way too long between posts, but you know how it goes… Mystique barely has time to do my laundry, fix my meals, clean up the house, and pooper-scoop the yard, let alone update a blog :-)

Actually, things are going really well, but busy. The days fly by, although sometimes it doesn’t seem like that when the girls are in tandem-cry mode. Mystique’s still doing an awesome job of feeding the girls throughout the day. At night I get to bottle-feed one since we found that breast-feeding the two of them at night was next to impossible. Sure, it could get done, but nobody got any sleep, except maybe Rupert.

The girls are having some nice alert periods, usually followed up by nice sleep periods. They definitely prefer to be in someone’s arms, though, so lately swings and vibrating seats haven’t been all that helpful. Grammy and Grumpy, on the other hand, have been pretty helpful.

It looks like next week Mystique will be heading back to work a couple days a week… I’ll be shifting my schedule on those days to just go into work late and stay late. It’ll be interesting to see how that works out for all of us… yesterday I worked from home the whole day and witnessed first-hand all of the fun that Mystique goes through managing two newborns on her own. Yikes. I’ll have my parents on speed dial for my six-hour shift on monday, that’s for sure ;-)

More soon!

Shot and Snow

We took the girls in for their second Synagis (sp?) shot yesterday… that’s the stuff that protects them from RSV. Of course, they didn’t like getting that shot… but the good part was that we got to weigh them again and Piper is at 8lb 3oz and Lela shot up to 8lb even. That’s a pretty big growth spurt for “little” Lela. She was so happy she peed on the scale.
