9 Month Check UP:)

Well as you all guessed the girls are doing great and got a clean bill of health at their nine month check up. Piper has two teeth now and is working on standing. She is trying really hard to stand up by pulling herself up on whatever she can find and is trying to get her little legs up under her so that she can start to crawl. The doctor’s prediction is within the next two weeks so we shall see. She is about 26 inches long and a little over 18 pounds. She is chattering away and loves all the different textures around her in the world. We went to coffee with a girlfriend the other day and she was facsinated by all the things she could touch, the silk scarf, the chenille sofa, the little beads on the lamps etc.

Lela is doing great as well. Her teeth are right under the skin but have not broken through. She is still not as stable as Piper but she is working on it. She is about 27 inches long and a little over 17 pounds. She loves to clap her hands and is quick with a smile for everyone. She is chatty cathy as well and loves to play peek a boo or any other game you have up your sleeve. We are working on eating more solid foods, letting them feed themself more, taking bigger bottles and sleeping through the night. If it sounds like we are busy, we are, but we love it.

Nine Months

The girls are officially nine months old (and a day, I’m late)… time sure does fly. Nine months isn’t necessarily a “special” birthday, but I think most parents kind of feel like it is. When you first find out you’re pregnant, your first thought is to calculate a date that’s nine months out. Nine becomes an almost magical number that you think about almost every day. It’s your goal; it signifies the beginning of a whole new life that’s scary and exciting.

When the girls were in the hospital we were still focused on nine months. That was our new goal — get the girls to when their due date was and we could go home.

So it’s hard to shake that special feeling that saying “nine months” gives you. The girls are nine months old and we couldn’t be happier.

A Good Night\’s Sleep

I love it when the girls get a good night’s sleep, or a good nap. This morning, after a pretty good night, Lela woke up and was just all smiles, all the time. She’s got the biggest grin and it’s such a boost in the morning when you look over at her and smile and she smiles back.

When Piper has a good night’s sleep it’s similar, but of course unique. Her little face will light up and she’ll give you a sly grin. I think she’s just as happy to see you in the morning, she just shows it in her own way.

I think we’ve decided that Lela will definitely clap when she’s happy. When I got home from work yesterday Mystique and the girls were sitting out front in the grass on a blanket. When I walked up Piper was still focusing on the flower she was holding but Lela looked up and smiled big and started clapping. I sat down next to her, said hello, and then I started clapping. Once she saw that, she again grinned her gummy-grin and clapped with me. It was awesome.

Piper’s a bit different with clapping… when she sees you doing it, she wants to hold your hands. She’ll lean forward as far as she can with her pudgy little hands outstretched towards yours. If she can reach, she’ll grab them and then look right up at you with either her curious look her own little smile. Such sweet babies.

The whole TOOTH and Nothing But the TOOTH

So Piper got her first tooth on Sunday. We thought something was going on with the up at night crying thing that is uncharacteristic for her (and for Lela). And then it happened I did my daily tooth check and there it was. Just a sharp little bugger sticking up, it is still hard to see but you can feel it.

She is handling it like a real champ, just the occasional whine and whimper. Frozen washclothes and teething toys seem to do the trick. I have some homeopathic teeting tablets that help relieve her discomfort at night. The best thing is that I get to snuggle and hold her most of the night, which is more a treat for me than her I am sure. But it gives me a nice excuse. I think Lela is jealous of the tooth because she seems to be trying very hard to force herself to get one too. We will keep you posted on that.

We have company this week so I have been pretty lax in posting photos and chatting on the blog. Hope all is well with everyone, love and laughter abound here at the Haslup house.
