Rotavirus and TGFG

Well we finally got sick. After everything we went through to keep the girls well they have caught their first virus. Apparently it is a virus that is very common and most children get it before the age of 2. Piper came down with it first with 24 hours of vomiting then a fever of about 99.6, then Lela started with a doosy of a poosy. It ran down her leg and onto Grandma’s foot. Ick! Then Lela’s fever and vomiting kicked in. I am sooooo glad that I was not on my own during this virus, I really needed the extra help. So Thank Goodness for Grandparents:)

It has been a very tough day for the girls. Piper is on her 48+ hour of the virus and Lela is just kicking it into gear going on hour 12 or so. I think we have another couple of stressful days ahead for us and uncomfortable days for the girls. They are being monitored by their doctor and we just have to ride it out and stay hydrated. Jason and I are chewing our food really well just in case we get hit too:)

Pointing and stacking

Just an update on the girls. Lela is still in love with Elmo, I don’t think that is going to change anytime soon. She has Twist and Shout Elmo, Chicken Dance Elmo and E-L-M-O (to the tune of YMCA), she loves them all and constantly points at them and grunts until you turn them on. Then she laughs and dances. The other day she was up on the tops of her toes, not tippy toes, think Ballerina top of toes. She kept doing it over and over even though I was wincing each time. She might be a dancer. She walks on her tippy toes when you hold her hands, she is already tall but maybe she wants to be taller!

Piper has started to stack things. She can stack blocks and as soon as she gets them stacked Lela enjoys knocking them down. Piper doesn’t mind and just goes about stacking again. She also has started to help me put away the toys when it is time for naps. Lela continues to zoom from one place to the next tossing whatever she is playing with over her shoulder as she speeds away. Her favorite game is carry me around the house so I can point at everything.

We are starting our Baby Signs class on Wednesday. It is during their normal nap time so we will see how it goes.

We\’re Back

Well we are back from our sojourn to Texas and none the worse for wear. The girls and I flew solo to and from and survived quite nicely. We had a 7AM flight on the way out and Piper was asleep before the plane took off in her car seat and Lela dozed off about an hour in and slept the whole way. So we arrived refreshed and ready for the day. On the way back both girls decided fly time was fun time and stayed awake most of the flight. They were both very good and we got absolutely no dirty looks and some nice man even dared to sit right next to a mom and twins, brave soul. Turned out he was asleep most of the time (or acting like it) and the girls barely bugged him:)

We had a great time in Texas with Nana and Papa and Great Granny. We went to the zoo, Macaroni Grill (an adventure for the girls), walked around their beautiful neighborhood and had a really good time. We went out for Mexican food a lot, the girls pretty much stuck to avocado and mom’s good cooking.

During the trip Lela’s second tooth popped out so she has two lower teeth. Nothing else really major happened. The girls are both crawling really well. Piper is standing off and on and can now drive her little car forward instead of just backwards. Lela is a good walker when she is holding your hands, she goes very very fast. Piper is slow and controlled and Lela is like Dale Earnhardt Jr, all out all the time go go go.

The girls are interacting a lot more with Lela going over to give Piper kisses on the spur of the moment. They hold hands more and today Lela even tried to bite Piper with her two little teeth. So life is definitely getting more interesting. They are still sleeping and eating great, they eat everything I cook for them and take two naps a day and go to bed at 6:30 PM to 6:30 AM with no night waking. We are truly lucky.

Next week we start the baby signing class at the Chandler Parks and Recreation Department. It should be lots of fun. Not sure I want to empower them to tell me what they think of me, they might say they don’t like my cooking after all but are starving to death:) HA, LOL!

As you can see….all is well.

What\’s happening

So here is a little update on what is happening in 2006 so far. Lela is working on her other bottom tooth, this time with a tad but more discomfort than the first one. It is pushing through but has not broken the surface yet. Both the girls continue to stand up using anything they can get their hands on but have yet to take any tentative first steps. Piper will walk around holding just one of your hands which is quite a feat.

Lela is still in love with Elmo and stops dead in her tracks for anything Elmo. Piper is content to take everything in with equal zest. Piper likes to copy everything that everyone does, especially things that Lela does. Which is funny because Lela likes to do stuff like throw everything off her tray when she is done eating, so of course Piper must follow suit. They are both eating more and more everyday, sometimes I am amazed at how much. But they are wonderful eaters chowing down on everything I fix even broccoli, spinach, banana and black eye pea patties, I know…YUMMO! They love grill cheese sandwiches and even eggs. They still take two naps a day and go to bed around 6:30.

We are going on a plane trip to see Granny and Grampy in Texas and Great Granny. So that should be fun. They might even meet their Aunt Michele and Uncle Lawrence and their 4 cousins. We will see if they are up for all that excitement.

Well we are off and will see you again in about two weeks.
