Uhhhh….what just happened?

Well we were having an off nap day, I know you are all surprised.  Anyway, funny noises were coming from the girls room, laughing, crying, toys jingling…..the works.  After about a half an hour I decided they were not going to nap and went back to get them.  I opened the door and much to my surprise there were two babies in one crib!  My first thought was, “why did Jason put the girls in one crib.”  My second thought was, hmmmm….I think I put Lela in her crib and Jason put Piper in hers.  So my third thought was, how did Lela get in there.

We started with both girls in one crib, but that lasted until they were about 3 months old, then we put them in cribs at either side of the room and that lasted until they were 12 months old.  Then they wanted to be close to each other so we put them next to each other, then they started poking each other and stealing each others blankets so that lasted until they were 15 months old.  Then we put them in their cribs next to each other but seperated and that has lasted until they were 19 months old.  Today their cribs were about 8 inches apart when they went down for their nap.

I can only assume that someone (Lela) grabbed Piper’s crib pulled it close and then somehow catapulted herself into Piper’s crib.  I assume that is why Piper could not fall asleep!  HA!  So I don’t know what we are going to do next, they are in a phase where you can’t put them close to anything, i.e. lightswitch, window, stereo, dresser so we had them sort of in the middle of the room.  Now that Lela has realized she can get out I am not sure what we are going to do.  For the next few days I will see if that was a fluke and then we will go from there.

Never a dull moment:)

It hasn’t been the best week

Well this hasn’t been the best week of our lives but not the worst either.  It is that nagging old nap problem.  I am not sure which way is up and which is down.  Seems I always guess wrong on which is going to be a two nap day and which is a one nap day which just throws us all off.  We have stopped any art classes, library time etc. so that we can focus on well rested and happy babies.  We still workout 3 mornings a week but are back at home by 915AM.

Lela seems to need more sleep than Piper but she is more attached to Piper than Piper is to her (for now).  So she won’t go down (easily) without Piper in the room.  Most of the time Piper tolerates going in there with her and playing quietly until Lela is asleep and then I go and get Piper.  It works for us most days but some days it just doesn’t work out at all.

They are terribly cute though all the time, even when they are cranky.  They are trying to talk to you which is adorable.  I mentioned that they learned bread so now they go around asking and signing for bread and then you give it to them but they don’t really want it they just like being able to ask for it.  So we have lots of bread around, I should buy some cheap white bread so I dont use up all my expensive Ezekial bread.  But I am sure that plan would back fire so we will just keep doling out the good stuff.

We met our first state trooper yesterday which was a little nerve wracking for several reasons.   Lela started choking on a piece of apple just as I pulled onto the freeway in rush hour traffic.  She was really choking so I had to pull off quickly and I jumped out as the traffic was whizzing by at break neck speed.  She dislodged the piece of apple and I strapped her back in, she was still a little frightened but I knew we were in a danger zone.  By the time I got back in the car and got myself composed I looked up and there was a state trooper in front of me.  Where did he come from I don’t know.  He came to the window and asked if everything was alright, I told him about Lela and he said some kind words to her and helped me back onto the freeway safely.  He was just being a good samaritan.  I think it was my friendly reminder from the power above that I need to get my plates changed from Montana to Arizona.  Point taken will put it on the top of my TODO list.

I have decided to run the PF Chang Marathon in January so I will start my training this week.  Call me crazy but for those of you who know me you already knew I was crazy.

Words Words Everywhere

I always forget to mention how the girls are doing linguistically so here I am doing just that.  We are still learning more and more signs but now when we learn a sign the girls also try to say the word.  They learned the sign for bread the other day and now they say and sign bread.  It is hard to remember all the words that they try to say because they are trying to say a lot of words.  Some of the ones that I can remember include zebra, broccoli, hat, dog (which they have been saying for over 6 months), blue, green, yellow, bread, bath……okay so my memory is a little foggy here (and everywhere else).

They are repeating you when you say things if it is a sound they are familiar with.  They are also babbling more and more to themselves and occasionally to each other.  They will read a book together and to each other.  They are still grunting an awful lot when trying to get their point across.   As I type they are whimpering beside me so I better try to dechipher the message before we have a meltdown.
