Happy Birthday Beauties!

Well today is your two year birthday!  We had lots of fun with presents and your very own birthday cakes.  Last year Lela smashed hers to bits and Piper just picked at hers, this year Piper dug through the frosting to get to the yummy carrot cake and Lela just picked.  Neither of you is very big on sweets, probably because I don’t give you any:)  LOL!  Anyway, you both received quite a haul for your birthdays this year from all your grandparents, uncles and aunt.  I have written you both a letter and put them in your Stuffedbooks.

Sleep well, dream lots and tomorrow will be your first whole day as a wonderful two year old.

Some Lela Time

Having these two little girls is such a treat, but every now and then you get some alone time with just one and it’s very special.

This morning Lela woke up around 6:30am or so and I finally dragged myself out of bed at 6:45 to get the morning going. I fixed up a couple cups of soy milk for the girls and made it to their room. When I went in, though, only Lela was awake and Piper was sound asleep on her pile of books, phones, stuffed animals, and blanket.

So I got Lela and we headed out to the family room. She wasn’t interested in gonig potty, so we sat in the chair together while she sucked down her soy milk and I closed my eyes, fooling myself into thinking I might grab a couple of winks. Lela finished her milk, and asked where Piper was and I said she was sleeping. She asked about Mommy, and then a few of our neighbors, I think just getting the lay of the land. She seemed satisifed with all my answers (lots of folks were ’sleeping’), so she layed her head on my chest and we rocked for a while. Every now and then she’d pull her head up and point at the snowman on granny’s sweathshirt, and I’d assure her that yes, it was a snowman. One time she pointed at granny’s blanket, so I pulled it on us and we snuggled for a bit.

Of course that didn’t last long enough for me to get any sleep, so we were off doing the dishes. All this time, Lela was in such a good mood… laughing, smiling, grabbing dishes and jib-jabbering to me in Chinese.

Piper was still sleeping when Mystique came out, so I passed the baton to her and she started hanging out with Happy Lela. Same thing… lots of smiling, pointing, and laughing. Lela would pick up an Elmo toy and play with it for a while, then come see how I was doing in getting ready for work, etc… At one point I jokingly told her to go wake up Piper and she abruptly turned around and started heading out the door to do just that. Mystique called her back, though, so Piper’s sleep was uninterrupted.

Finally, around 8am or so, Piper awoke from her slumber. At first I think she was a little confused because Lela wasn’t there when she woke up, but she was right behind me when I got Piper, so all was good in the world. We came out just when our neighbor was coming over to not run with Mystique, so the five of us sat by the tree for a bit and talked about things. All in all, a great morning… two happy girls, and a wonderful wife, and a late start to work.

Priceless. :-)

She’s a superstar

Well leave it to Piper to steal the limelight, I swear she should have been a Leo! Anyhoo, a reporter contacted us and wanted to use Piper’s photo in a story she was writing. So here is the link to Piper’s online debut:

Ain’t she a doll?

It was an article about whether a burrito is a sandwich and if you can’t stand the suspense here is the article:

Etc.

Well we tease you with several posts in a week and then abandon you, I know we are horrible.

Grandma and Grandpa Slocum have arrived with Great Granny in tow, the house has been in quite a state for the last few days.  We were just getting adjusted when G and G left to go and visit cousin Ava in CA.  They will return on the 23rd with Ava in tow and then the party really gets started.  The house will be crammed full of family and a few friends for Christmas and that should make for a busy and fun day.  I am not sure the girls are going to manage it well but hey let’s give it a whizzle.

Oh and as a parting note both the Grandma’s 86′d the nickname idea.  Seems they thought it was too disgusting, LOL!  So we are sticking with Lela Kate for  now, not much of a nickname since it is her name but we don’t call Piper by both her names.  Well it is time for us to play outside so we gotta jet and I promise we will see you all soon with something exciting, well with something I can’t guarantee the exciting part.

Finally a nickname

Well we have all been really stressed out about a nickname for Lela.  She needs one because we have so many for Piper, peeps, peep, peeper, pipes etc.  But we could not come up with one for Lela that stuck, we tried Gumby (she is way flexible), leeps, leeper, leloo and others that just didn’t work.

She got tired of waiting and got her own nickname today.  Poopita.  Pronouce it like poop-eata

Yes today she got a hold of some really dried up dog poop and put it to her lips just as I was running toward her and snatching it from her hand.  It was gross but at least she has a nickname now.  Our little poopita.

I should know better

So as soon as I say that I get stuck with all the dirty work the world changes.  Now not only does Piper sit with Lela while she is on the potty, get her a book to read, get her fresh panties and flush the toilet she has also started to insist on wiping Lela’s bum!  It is so freakin’ funny.  She goes in and gets the toiley paper ready and then when Lela is done I pick her up to wipe her and Piper gives her a couple swish swishes with the paper and tosses it into the bowl, closes the lid and flushes the toiley.  Too funny.  Still not interested herself but has Lela’s routine down pat.

Laugh and laugh and laugh

Lela likes to sit on the potty, she doesn’t like to be rushed, she likes to read and sometimes Piper goes in to keep her company.  Piper will also get her panties for her, flush for her and wash her hands with her but is still not interested in doing any of that for herself, LOL!

Anyway, there was lots of laughter in the bathroom so without being noticed I peeked around the corner.  Piper had driven her car into the bathroom to keep Lela company and was standing in front of Lela with her car right behind her.  Piper was pulling up her shirt and Lela would poke Piper in the belly and they would laugh and laugh.  Then they would do it again and again.  One time Lela poked her too hard and Piper fell back onto her car and then forward into the bathroom cabinet.  Lela laughed and yelled OWIE, and then they both laughed and laughed.  Then Piper got up and the poking resumed.  So cute.  Finally Lela was done and yelled ALL DONE to me and out went Piper and in came mommy, I always get stuck with the dirty work;)
