Workshop

We are attending a four day workshop. Each day a different professional comes in and discusses her area of expertise and entertains the kids for 30 min, then they stay around to answer any questions you may have.  The classes are held in a huge room and it is filled with all sorts of developmental toys.  Today the theme was music and movement, a music therapist entertained us and the kids with songs and ideas of how we can use music in our everyday lives to help us provide structure to our environments.  After this it was time for free play.

I was happily playing with the girls when Lela decided she had to go pee.  Piper told me that she would like to stay so I took Lela and left her with the lady in charge.  When I returned she was still playing in the same spot by herself with the alphabet letters.  The lady in charge was playing with her and when I went over to check on her I told Piper it was time to go and change her diaper.  Piper put down her letters and started to follow me, the lady in charge said, “that is one mellow kid.”  I just laughed, after all she was right.

Big Girl Beds

Well we did it, we transitioned to big girl beds.  I was not sure if they were ready but I knew I was.  At 60+ pounds these days (together) they are getting to be a might bit heavy to be heaving in and out of their cribs, especially when I am holding them both and performing said task.  We left the cribs in there and my plan was should they give me any getting out of bed nonsense I would put them in their cribs.  But lucky for me they have been true champs and took right to their beds and have not once gotten up and come out of their rooms even though the door is not closed.  I have been mightily impressed.  We continue to play their bed time music and we read a couple books, then they lay in their beds and go to sleep.  Sometimes we have to go in to a call from one or the other right when they lay down but that is it.

I don’t know what we did to get so lucky.  Some folks think it is because we have been working off the same routine for over a year.  All the things I have done with the girls were to make my life easier so I can’t claim too much credit.  If the end result is that all of our “transitions” have been easier then that is just icing on our two layered, two flavored cake:)
