Swim Lessons

The girls started swim lessons on Saturday. As usual I thought I had much more time to get there than I actually did so we were rushing out the door and I forgot the Flip and the camera so for pics and film you will have to wait til next weekend. I was really pleased with how the girls did at lesson. Piper sat on the edge for a bit and then got in, Lela sat on the edge for longer but finally inched in to the pool. Several time before inching in Lela ran over to me and said she was feeling shy, I reassured her that sometimes I felt shy too and that was okay but she should sit near Piper so she would not feel shy too. That sent Lela back over to the pool area.

When Lela finally decided to sit on the edge of the pool and put her feet in Piper put her arm around Lela’s waist in the most reassuring way, it was very cute. The woman sitting next to me was totally distracted by Landis’ chumpy legs and finally said that she could not stop staring at them, they are pretty cute. Anyway, the girls kicked on th side of the pool, floated on their backs and flipped to their tummies (with support) and took a ride around the pool on a giant floating fish kicking slow and fast like a motor boat.

Mostly I am just working on getting them more comfortable around the water not actually learning to swim. I am hoping that they will learn how to put their heads underwater but that is about it. Our neighbor has a pool and recently switched from chlorine to salt so it is really nice for us. We have all the benefits of having a pool without any of the hassle. I spent a lot of time soaking in that pool with Landis in utero last year trying to boost my amniotic fluid (it actually works). So stayed tuned for swim school magic next week:)

Piper’s hair

Well Piper has not let up on the I want my hair like Daddy’s train so she got it cut again. It is now in the cutest little Dorothy Hamil. I don’t really like it because when I look at her she looks so grown up. I know it is just the beginning of her independence and it makes me sad but I am looking forward to what is next.

At the same time Piper and Lela are growing so fast Landis is out of all her baby stuff. No more jumpy, no more bouncy chair, no more floor mat:( She is 20+ and healthy as a horse and ready to get moving. The other day I put her on the floor next to the girls weekly art project (a piece of butcher paper taped to the island where they can paint, draw, put stickers or whatever each week) and when I looked back she was pulling little pieces of paper off of it and stuffing it in her pie hole! LOL! Her pie hole is definitely her favorite place to put thing and the most common greeting for Mommy, outstretched hands and an open mouth.
