Our Kids

The girls could not be more different. My friend LRW has identical girls and she was just saying how their very DNA is the same but their personalities are soooo different. More of the same over here.

Piper gets frustrated and she still bites. She is not very covert in her transgressions. She knows it is wrong but she is more likely to inflict some sort of physical pain (but this happens very rarely) than anything else.

Lela on the other hand likes to inflict emotional pain. Today alone she has tormented Piper (probably because she is tired) in her own way. She took one of Piper’s books (during clean up time) and locked it in the bedroom. When it was time to wash our hands she ran to the bathroom and locked the door behind her so that Piper could not wash her hands. If she saw Piper looking sideways at a toy (like the shovel at the park) she ran over and said she had it first and turned her back on an emotionally distraught Piper.

It is interesting to see how they exact their punishment on each other. I am sure it will be even MORE interesting when they are both teenagers. Heaven help me:)

Ha! One late night and the girls are melting in to a puddle on the floor an hour before bedtime. I actually forgot that they went to bed an hour late last night due to the Superbowl or I would have been more prepared. In addition to the measly one hour of missed sleep I took them to the park today, made sure they walked, ran, and played their hearts out. So on top of being extra tired they were EXTRA tired. Way to go Mom! LOL! I am paying for not “paying” more attention since the girls have been crying over a freakin’ pencil sharpener for about an hour now. Sometimes the price is high, LOL!

It was symphony day for Lela and I. I was not excited about it but mostly because I was tired. But after we got ready and were heading out the door I was determined to make the most of it and enjoy it. We decided to head out for some lunch at Rubios. As I got in to spending time with just Lela the day got brighter. She is such a joyful child, very well mannered, very well behaved and cute as a pin.

I think we should all take a little more time to spend alone time with our kids. Sometimes in the hustle and bustle of the day you don’t get to see your individual child. It was a great experience and a bit of an ah ha for me.

We ate our lunch and we still had some time so I thought we would do some shoe shopping. BUT Lela was ready for the Symphony, she had a bit of a one track mind. So we drove downtown and arrived early. We got in to the convention center and headed to the buck to get a soy chai and a kids soy hot chocolate. We sat and watched people and sipped our drinks. Since we were sitting right outside symphony hall Lela was a little more relaxed.

We headed in to the symphony were we watched some dancers (aged 3-14) do traditional dances from Jalisco, Mexico. Lela really enjoyed the dancers and was tapping her feet and clapping her hands. When they finished she was ready to go to her seat even though we had another 20 min or so.

We went in and got our seats and she was just excited and cute as can be. We chatted and laughed and even ran to the bathroom at the last minute which was fun. When the symphony started she crawled on to my lap for a better view. She was very entertained and was clapping along with the music. About 3 songs in she turned her head toward my shoulder and fell asleep.

I enjoyed the rest of the concert with her curled on my lap sleeping soundly. I fell bad for not looking forward to it more because I was so richly rewarded with a wonderful day with an absolutely delightful child (who amazingly is mine).

The girls closet has changed. It used to be filled with reds, browns, blues, greens and a lot of oranges. But now if you look in it you will see lots of pinks, purples and still reds. I don’t know when or how it happened but it did, I don’t know if we did it intentionally or unintentionally.

The one thing that I DO know is that the girls definitely prefer to wear their pinks and purples. So I guess no matter how or why it happened it is a good thing it did. Lela has gone to wearing bows in her hair almost every day and puts together her outfits. Piper puts hers together too but in a different way. Today she has on a striped shirt and floral pants, it is a look for sure.
