Dentist appt

The girls had their second dentist appointment in their short lives. The first one went okay with just brushing and checking. This time the dentist was hoping to use the spin brush. I had all three of them but the office is so kid friendly, he only sees one family at a time and the room has multiple chairs in it and they have the option of sitting on my lap or in the chairs.

Piper went first, not that she volunteered but she was the easiest. He was able to check all her teeth with the picker thingie ma bob and also he was able to actually clean her teeth. She was okay until about right at the end when she started to cry. That was all Lela needed to fall to pieces. She does get emotional cues from Piper and the distress signal was out in full force.

So I scooped Lela up from her puddle on the floor and proceeded to torture her. Last time she did not even get a tooth brushing because we had to get her cleared by the cardiologist. This time she was clear and he just used the toothbrush to clean her teeth. She cried the whole time and it was a good segway to Landis who cried the whole time.

After their appt they get a token and are able to pick a toy so they were placated a bit by that. They were calm by the time we left but Lela was gagging and dry heaving something fierce. It is when I realized they have not mastered “spit.” So I would get her to rinse and “spit” which is mostly just drool water and saliva out of your mouth down your clothes and onto the ground….lovely!

The good news is that we all survived of course and that we have no cavities. All teeth are in good shape so at least I get some validation of my parenting there:) Just wait til they get a cavity, then it will be their fault….haha.

They got “outstanding achievement” certificates that included a free kids meal from Rubios. So after we got all rinsed out and cleaned up I took them to lunch and that made their day (well that and of course that I am the most wonderful mom in the world).

Universal Unitarian??

So my spirituality does not fall in line with mainstream Christianity. Nor does much of what I believe in for that matter. But I do want the girls to have a sense of community and the ability to explore what makes sense and what falls in line for them. That means exposing them to different ideas and letting them make their own way. In the meantime though I would like some help reinforcing what I am teaching them about being kind to others, accepting everyone, cherishing the earth etc.

That led me to UU. Today the girls went to “church” with me. They stayed in the service and then went out with the kids to their classes. They learned about spring and how to appreciate how the world is changing etc. and they drew pictures of what spring meant to them.

Lela was in hog heaven in church, she was swaying with the music and even pretending to sing all the songs. Piper was hanging upside down on my legs, kicking her feet up and not even engaged, lol. They both liked their class though.

The topic today was, Where Do We Stand When the Issues Get Tough? It was timely and a good topic for thought. I enjoyed myself although I can do without all the singing, I guess I am with Piper there. Anyway, I think it is a good place for us and hope that we can make it a habit.

I am also going to join a more mainstream Christian moms group and the girls will get some exposure to that as well. We will see how it all goes.
