Rain Day!

The girls love the rain, I don’t know if they would love it if we lived somewhere it rained all the time but they do love it here. We had a wonderful cool rain day yesterday and we made the most of it. The cool weather greeted us in the morning so we went to breakfast and then got outside asap. We played ball, we rode our bikes, we drew with chalk, we rode our plasma cars and then it started to rain. Oh we were excited, we made leaf boats and floated them down the gutter, we splashed in the water, we got our umbrellas out and just got a good soaking. Then the rain cleared up and we headed to the backyard for some swinging, climbing and mud pie making. If that wasn’t enough we went to the park to play soccer and climb on the jungle gym. Boy was it nice to get outside for a change:)

Is the costume store open?

Is the costume store open?

Is the costume store open?

Is the costume store open?

It is like the perpetual “are we there yet” question while driving. Finally the costume store was open today, yippee! We went in and made an outrageously overpriced purchase of one Belle costume for Lela complete with tiara and wand and one rose bud fairy with lighted skirt and lighted want for Piper. I had to tell myself that this is why I have not had a birthday party (we have had parties but not ones that cost money) and bought many of their clothes used. Since I have been marginally thrifty on things up to now I don’t feel so bad spending foolishly on things that they really want. Lela was going to be Belle if it killed her. It is so funny because she has seen that movie one time and it was forever ago, Piper is still afraid of all Disney movies so we don’t watch them. Anyhoo, they are very happy with their costumes and I suppose I will be hearing “is it Halloween yet” for the next 50+ days.

Science Co-op

Today we went for our first outing with our new homeschool group. It was a science coop and I did not know what to expect. We got there and there was a good range of kids with lots of them in early elementary. We did a probability exercise where we each got a container of coins and we flipped them 20 times and recorded how many head and how many tails. Then we each created a bar graph of our results and then of the group as a whole. The girls like the shaking, counting and writing of numbers and even got in on the bar graph but that is where it ended for them. It was fun though. I was surprised that after about 10 flips they wanted to actually write down the data for heads and tails. They did really well, I could recognize 90 percent of the numbers they wrote. The main thing is that they wanted to write them I was not making them so I am deducing that they were enjoying the experiment.

I am the one with the pink ribbons

The girls have started this thing where they point out who they are in a book, a tv show or anywhere they see people. If they see two girls dancing they will say I am the one with the pink bow and then the other says I am the one with the blue skirt. I am not sure why they want/need to be the people they are looking at but it is comedy in motion. Sometimes they want to be the same person so I have to step in and let them know it is okay for them to be the same person when they are using their imagination.

Overscheduled

We are going through some growing pains with Desert Sun and our new homeschool activities. I am also helping with our club rummage sale, preparing my stuff for the sale, doing the newsletter for the club and a million other little things like playgroups, food swaps and more. Sigh…..I think I bit off a little more that I can chew (not really) but I am feeling the crunch. I am totally excited about all our homeschool activties and will post more about that as we go forward.

Broke Bed Mountain

HA! I am so funny!

Anyhoo, we have already had a broken bed issue. The girls were showing their new beds to Kelly our babysitter when Lela decided to jump up really high and then land on her bottom. She did that well but apparently when she landed she broke the slats underneath Piper’s bed. HA! Now I think that most of that is that Lela is like a ton of bricks for reals AND that the mattresses we purchased are HORRIBLE. Anyhoo, we went to Home Depot today and got some reinforcements (new slats) and I put them in. So all is well Piper’s bed is fixed, Lela won’t jump on the bed again any time soon and the sun still sets.
