I wish I was a little pot of piss

Lela (who loves music) was excited to tell me about a new song she learned in school today. I assumed it was with Teacher Aimee but when she started to sing it I began to wonder. It went like this:

I wish I was a little pot of piss
I wish I was a little pot of piss

Here I interrupted her and said, I am not sure those are the right words. She seemed a bit flustered and tried again, mind you she has never used the word piss and I don’t think she knows what a pot of piss is. She tried again and it came out the same, now she looked upset. She tried again and it came out like this:

I wish I was a hippopotamus
I wish I was a hippopotamus
I would hop and I would dive and I would jiggle and jibe (she didn’t get the ve)
Oh I wish I was a hippopotamus

I thought it was funny how she took a word that she did not know hippopotamus (we say hippo) and made it in to words that sounded like what Teacher Aimee was singing.

How did the doctor know?

The girls wanted me to explain why and how the doctor could tell they were girls in my tummy from the ultrasound and how did they know Phoebe was a girl. So I was explaining it to them how it took a lot of practice and study for the technician to learn how to tell the difference. Well that was not good enough.

So I asked them if they looked the same naked as Daddy did. They laughed and said NO. Then Lela told me that daddy’s vagina was different from theirs and then went on to say how funny daddy’s vagina looked. HA HA! I decided not to tell them that it was not called a vagina since they seemed to be happy with the answers they got.

We have decided to tell the girls what things are when they ask and not to nickname body parts or trivialize the differences between men and women. We also are teaching them that those are things we talk about in private and not at school. We will see how it goes.

Meltdown Mode

Landis is in a funky meltdown mode. I think it is a developmental spurt because she is not sleeping, not eating and melting down. She is not sick. She is also repeating all words, trying to spell things, say her alphabet and other language related things so I think her little brain is in overtime. I finally figured this morning if I let Lela and Piper play together and I play with Landis there is much more harmony in the house, at least for now. Phew glad I figured that one out the meltdowns were getting contagious.
