Phoebe has a cold

And it sucks! I feel just horrible for her since she is so congested and there is nothing I can do. So far it seems like it is draining and not in to her chest. I know she doesn’t realize what is happening and can’t be pitiful like a 5 year old can but I know what is happening so I am pitiful enough for us both. Poor thing. I also realize it is inevitable with 3 older sisters and 2 adults who leave the house that she will get sicker more often in the beginning than Piper and Lela did. I also realize that she will be better off in the long run because she is creating antibodies. It doesn’t really make me feel any better about the whole situation though.

On a lighter note she is getting stronger and loves to hold up her head when she is awake. She has quite a grip with her hands and even turned on to her side once when I had her on her tummy. She still sleeps most of the day but has had several alert periods where she will be up for about 45 minutes, but then the next day she sleeps more.

A little story

Okay so about 3-4 weeks ago Jason said,

“I want to change the battery in your car, I don’t like the idea of you being stranded on the side of the road with all the girls and batteries last about 2.5 years here in the desert.”

I of course, mocked him because he was going to change the battery and suggested he take it somewhere. He checked it out and said that he could do it but I am sure I planted the seed in his mind that he could not:)

Fast forward to today. I am taking all the girls to school for the first time. All is going well and I decide to take Landis and Pheebs through the Mickey D’s drive thru for an apple pie and iced tea (snack of champions according to the commercials during the Olympics). Then we pull to the back of the lot and turn the car off. Landis and I have a good ol’ time hanging out laughing and spending time together. We feed Phoebe change her diaper and figure we will head back to school early to help clean the classroom. Alas when we turn the key in the ignition all we get is click….click….click Seriously????

Then we remember that we forgot our cell phone, yeah that is right winner winner chicken dinner. So I unload Landis, Moby up Phoebe and we set out to find a pay phone. Did you know that no one has payphones anymore???? The convenience store manager of the ARCO was nice enough to let me use his phone to call Jason. Thank the maker Jason answered because lord knows I would not have answered an unidentified number.

Jason jumped to work as the puppet master and rallied the troops. My mom and dad were called on to rescue the girls from school and then USAA roadside assistance got a jingle to come and rescue me from the MickeyD’s.

Lucky for me Pheebs was happy as a clam in the Moby and Landis entertained herself with a rock family consisting of a mommy rock, daddy rock and baby rock. It was a bit of a technology shock to be sitting there with no phone and no watch and no way to know what time it was because my battery was dead. Talk about sad, lol!

Thanks to all who came to our rescue today and yes Jason will be changing my battery tonight and this time I will choose to be grateful instead of using mockery….lesson learned.

Allergic reaction

The other day I noticed a rash beginning around my c-section incision. I did not think much of it. Over the next few days it started to spread and really start to itch. By this weekend I was all itchy and it took most of my will power not to scratch.

I went to the doctor today and alas I have had an allergic reaction to the Dermabond. ARGH! I say argh because I had a lot of dermabond on me and now I have a horribly, angry, itchy rash. Gah! I can’t really complain since I could have gotten something much much worse than a rash. The debbie downer of it all is that there is not much they can do and the doctor says it lasts a long, long time. Yeah!

Oh well, I would gladly pay that price many times over to have my little Pheebs:) Perspective….

Update on the girls

All the girls are doing well.

Landis is still adjusting to being the big girl and alternates from wanting to go on the big potty to walking around with a pacifier (which she never used as a baby).

Piper is all lovey dovey and can’t get enough of Phoebe, she really missed me this week at drop off and pick up for school and wrote me a letter every day saying how much she missed me.

Lela is Lela and is happy, crafty, creative and generally unphased by much.

Phoebe got a nickname, Munchie, and she lost her belly button a little early (wuck as Landis would say).

All in all the girls are doing great, I am a little on the tired side but managing quite well with the help of my folks and husband.

EEK, I am so excited!

Here is our sneak peek from Michele Stange photography.

Hearts are melting, especially mine:) I am so blessed with my sweet as pie family and da’ best husband on the planet. Stars aligned the day he decided I was the one.

She dropped a kiddo in the pool!

So Landis generally uses Jason’s office as her poo zone. She goes in, makes everyone else leave and then does her business in her diaper. We also have a potty in there (I know Jason loves that!) and she will go in and strip down and go pee all on her own. She is sort of potty training herself which is kind of cool. Anyhoo this morning the office was a flurry of activity and no matter how much she commanded folks to leave, it just wasn’t happening. Finally, Jason said if you want to poo go somewhere else or go on the big potty. Resigned to her fate she said “otay” and headed to the big potty with Jason where she dropped a kiddo in the pool! She did it, she really did! We all went in and clapped and cheered and she was tickled with her big girl success. Seems like the addition of Phoebe is actually solidifying her place in the family as a big girl in her eyes.

Sneak Peek

When we had Landis I still felt like something was missing and now that we have Phoebe I have a wonderful feeling of completeness. So to celebrate this I am having our family photographed not once but twice! Yes I know it seems a bit extravagant but it is what I want. We had our first shoot yesterday by Tami Profitt and we are being shot by Michele Stange today. Stay tuned for more sneak peeks:)

She’s alive!

Yes, I am alive and kicking and could not be happier:) We are finally home after a short stay in the hospital. The hospital was nice but I am glad to be home to my family and my Tempurpedic mattress:)

Phoebe is doing great adjusting to life at home with sometimes rowdy but so loving sisters. There is some jockeying to see who can hold Phoebe first, longest and what not but other than that no real jealousy and lots of hugs and kisses. My folks and Jason did a wonderful job making the girls feel loved. I also have a good friend whose daughter goes to school with the girls and she was sure to give Piper extra love and hugs when she was missing me at pick up. On top of that her teacher, the lovely and uber wonderful Karen F, was sure to shower her with attention so that she was more secure. Lela of course was more concerned with what she was going to spend her allowance on this weekend, lol! Even with the allowance spending looming Lela has been more affectionate and loving with Phoebe than she was with Landis, probably because she is more secure with her place in the family (thanks to her age and her school I think).

Phoebe is on a pretty good 2 hour sleep/feed schedule and is doing well at night. We have started using our cloth diapers (thanks for the diaper service Grandpa Jack and Grandma Kathie) and I feel good about that. The nursing is going well after getting over those first few days and Phoebe is going to be a great nurser just like Landis.

Oh yeah Landis! She could not be cuter, it seems like her personality exploded while I was in the hospital and she is the biggest, silliest ham diego you have ever seen. She loves Phoebe and giggles whenever Phoebe squeaks. Jason is working with Landis to stay in her bed all night and she did last night for the first time. Hopefully we can get her to do it herself within the next week or so. The other night we had Landis, Phoebe, Lela plus Jason and I in the bed and I have to say the only one who slept well was Lela, lol!

We are loving being together and I feel that our family is complete and completely wonderful.
