New Years Eve 2010

Today was a great day. I got up and worked out and then came home and made scones and had some tea (my fave tea and scones). Then we got ready and headed out for the morning/lunch. We returned some things and bought a couple things and then went to lunch.

We went to True Food, I had been wanting to go there for some time. The best part was that we met Grammy Kathie and Grampy Jack AND Uncle JJ. True Food was fab, I had the kale salad and tomato soup, yumm-o. Then the fun began, we saw Tayshaun Prince of the Detroit Pistons, Grant Hill of the Phx Suns and then Steve Nash of the Phx Suns all coming in to get some good grub before the game.

Cool huh? Well I haven’t even gotten to the best part. As we sat there at our table for 9 right by the front door a man came over and asked me if they were all my children. I said yes with a big smile on my face and then he proceeded to tell me how proud I should be because they were so incredibly good. Thank you to that gentleman for taking the time to notice what sometimes I forget. My girls are wonderful out in public (and mostly at home) and sometimes I forgot just how good they are. So thanks to my lovely children for being so well mannered that we can go to places like True Food and actually enjoy ourselves:)

Happy New Year to all my family and friends, may this year be all you want it to be.

I discovered a secret! Since I can’t keep secrets hardly ever I guess I will share it. The girls are growing up (not a news flash) and they have just been looking so old lately. I was almost resigned to it until today. While we were out they wanted to get their haircut. I said okay, both Lela and Piper got their hair cut just above the shoulders and VOILA they look at least a year if not two younger! HA! Now they don’t look so grown up AND absolutely adorable:) Maybe getting my hair cut shorter will take a few years off me too???? I am willing to try:)

Downward Dog

Well Phoebe isn’t sitting around on her laurels with the whole crawling thing she is up and at em and on to the downward dog yoga pose. She has mastered pulling herself up on furniture and can even stand for a second or two on her own. She is getting brave and letting go of your hand for a second and even considering letting go of something to get something else. I don’t know if that means she will be toddling sooner rather than later but we shall see:)

They did it, they really did

They went ahead and turned six. No matter what I had in mind they grew up and turned six! Kids, they never listen:)

Lela

Filed under:Kids — posted by mystique on @ 3:52 pm

Well Lela is growing up, not like that is some big surprise. A few weeks ago, maybe even two months ago, she came to me wanting to get her ears pierced. Well just like the whole playdate thing I was not prepared for this question. My folks set a date and that was when we could get our ears pierced, I think it was 13. But with twins it is a bit different.

This was something Lela wanted to do, Piper did not. This was Lela saying I am different, I am an individual and this is what I want even if Piper doesn’t want it. So we talked about it, a lot. I went to bed thinking about it a lot. I talked with her about what it is like, that she could not wear dangles, the care of them, the fact that it hurts to get them and everything else I could think of.

Then after all that I talked with her teacher. Since in Waldorf the whole point of the curriculum is for the children to become who they were destined to be, to find out who they are inside with as little input or pressure from convention I figured their teacher might have some insight. Funny thing was that she had the same thoughts I did, this was Lela asserting her independence as a six year old and as a twin.

So we did it. Lela and I went and got her ears pierced. I have to admit that I was more freaked out than she was, this wasn’t my decision or on my terms so I don’t think I was quite ready. It took a nice walk by the mountain breathing in fresh air to get my head back on straight but in the end I am okay with it. They look great and she is taking care of them and being very responsible. Piper still doesn’t want them, maybe when she is 8 she says:)

My days and this house

Well I have had a couple of really great days with Landis and Phoebe. We are getting in to a new routine and it is so fabulous. Mornings I get to spend time with them both and then Phoebe goes down for a nap and I get to spend some time with Landis. We have been playing with playdoh a lot and also dancing to the Nutcracker on a daily basis. Then Phoebe gets up and sometimes Landis lays down for a rest and I get to play with just Phoebe.

Things are different here in the magic house. For one thing the house is so big I don’t always know where the girls are and that is an uncomfortable feeling. On the flip side the house is so big that I am able to spend more one on one time with each of the kids. This morning Piper and Landis were playing while Phoebe was napping and I got in some good alone time with Lela, so the benefits of the bigger house outweigh being out of my comfort zone. We had our security system installed today so at least now I know when a door or window is being opened:)

Prevacid here we come

UPDATE: The prevacid seems to be working like a charm, so we will see how she does when we take her off in a few weeks.

Sigh….well I am at the end, the end of a long road for Landis and a long struggle for me. We have done all the allergy testing and diagnosing we can do and have come to the conclusion that she has acid reflux and has had it since she was a baby.

All the pieces fit so neatly together now that she is fully able to communicate. I regret not figuring it out sooner but am hopeful that a 3 week course of prevacid will end her tiny tummy suffering.

So we are on a once a day 15mg of prevacid.

For those interested here are the pieces of the puzzle:

Bouts of crying at night
Constant nursing/eating as a baby
Projectile vomiting
Gagging and refusing all baby food of any kind flavor
Not eating solids until after about 18 months
Aversion to any vegetable
Texture issues with food
Constantly hungry but never eating
Weight loss
Consistent tummy troubles all day long

We have liftoff!

Phoebe is officially crawling as of 3:45PM today! She has been scooting around all week on her bumper and you may leave her in one space to come back to find her in another space. But today as we were in my room she got up on her knees and crawled! She did it two more times and Jason even caught it on video. So exciting, I think:)
